The digital whale will still call through the waters
but now is linked in to the world wide wet
streaming her songs to land bound followers
and the digital dolphin has claimed the podcast
as her own, working with the other
members of her pod

Meanwhile, the digital octopus
undercover of the more famous mammals
has taken residence in your inner ear
whispers her incandescent mantras
and solutions to all your woes
direct to your subconscious
makes you her willing slave
will own the planet tomorrow

In a short clip captured during a blackwater night dive in the Lembeh Strait, a blanket octopus unfolds and displays a colorful web multiple times her original size. The aquatic animal’s iridescent body and tentacles glow against the nighttime water before she releases her translucent blanket that connects her dorsal and dorsolateral arms. Only adult females are equipped with the lengthy membrane that reaches as long as six feet and dwarfs male octopi, which are less than an inch in size and most often die immediately after mating. Generally, the females only unfurl their color-changing blankets to appear larger and more intimidating to potential predators. Octopi

In tidal pools with their
time melted crab shells and
dribs and drabs of bright green seaweed
are many octopi
legs self entangled
magenta skin turning sweet rose
in sunny waters

It needs gentle prods with a
boot toe to confirm death
so fresh they look
no one else walking the busy
windswept beach seems
to notice or care

In one pool
a larger octopus is beached
as if trying to crawl
to escape back to the estuary
her tentacle tip touching
a bluegray pebble in supplication
