Boundless blue

The boundless blue surrounds
As we plunge into its secrets
Swimming after parrot fish
Startled by porpoise
The only sound the bubbles of my breathing
In and out of the snorkel

Day 2 of our virtual Azores Holiday!

We will be there all week — a poem a day to fly you away……

And somehow the ocean

Sun glints pierce my eyes
as we hit another wave
rise
slide into the trough
the apogee
our horizon is limitless
oceanic expanse
seemingly bereft of life
the unharvestable blue
then the cackle of dolphins
arrests our attention
away from the discipline of waves

Snub noses pierce the surface
laughing beeps beckon
closeby
then further into the swell
we hesitate and a challenge is issued
repeatedly
until we speed up and run alongside
then within
an enormous crowd
of joyous fellows

Cave

Deep in a volcanic sea cave
crimson crabs hang from the ceiling
scuttle along walls, clattering  pincers
gather in their hundreds
in affront
as our boat noses in,
engine stilled.

We have raced across open ocean
slamming over waves
to be claustrophobically  enclosed
looked down upon by crustaceans
never before have I felt
such an visitor to my own planet
insignificant in the face of the whale and the dolphin
and now these outraged crabs.
