Watercolour Sky

The image is built  in a series of layers
First, a pale blue wash across the sky
Then, broad brush strokes of pale icy cirrus
With pen details of contrails crossing At the midpoint
Broken colours of cumulus, grays dark and light
Inky smudges along the horizon
All above a darkened landscape
Washes of Greens
Inked in hedges
Occasional highlights
Painting left unsigned

Painting and Poem: Art for my sake

P1180444Art for my sake

Brush in hand
I decide on the first stroke
Relieved to have got this far
Having chosen what to paint
Searching through ideas
Photos
Then mixing the colours
A bit of this
No, not that
Thinning, adding
Finally
Pausing
Contemplating the paper
That moment of peace
Stillness
Before I take action

Painting: Hey Mr Spaceman

p1180332

An Apollo astronut floating high….

….plus a bonus poem, this time about someone in a red suit:

Resplendent in red

She came to see me
Resplendent in red
Glittering with dust
Her elegant bone structure evident more than ever
Desiccated and dead
Spacesuit blown
Floating past the view screen
When I  know we retrieved her from orbit yesterday
