Rivers and streams laugh around boulders
tumble down slopes
burble drunkenly against their banks
lie in wait
ready to trip us at fords
pull us under as we swim
You waters with no feeling
have you regrets as you flow past?
In your heart
things you cannot express
deeds you do not enact?

I love the image of the water laughing around boulders…..and the idea of rivers having emotions…….

Thank you Sherry. I was reading about ancient river names and found out the the River Thames means “the dark one”. This poem came from there….

The wildness of rushing water can be so terrifying-you did a wonderful job exploring that feeling.
