The heavy bones of my life
scrape past yellow lichens
to sink in verdant moss
These bones, they cast long shadows
that smother sunlit joys
weigh me down when I yearn to
dance with the birds

A poem inspired by the line from ‘Spring Azures’ from the poetry collection Wild Geese by Mary Oliver: ‘Sometimes the great bones of my life feel so heavy’.
It’s always a dance with gravity, heavy-footed though we be. Sometimes the music is in falling almost gracefully.

Ooo, where does that falling gracefully quote come from? Goggle gives me Disney, but I’m sure it’s about a dancer…..

I love this. Dancing with the birds is lovely, even if our old bones clank a bit. I’m sure we make them smile.

Oh Kim, my bones have been feeling heavier of late, and your poem hits home! I too long to dance with the birds.
