A desert enters your soul
hot sun settles deep into bones
claims flesh as part of
wind, rock, sand.
Lonely dry grasses wait
in sheltered cracks
for any moisture.
Desert sunsets bleed the sky
of colour and heat
suddenly dark, suddenly cold.
