Every body’s wounded

Caring for your grave,
trimming edges, pulling weeds
tending flowers.

Cleaning the headstone,
tracing the words with my fingers
‘As yet unfinished’.

The dates are ridiculous,
it hasn’t been that long.
Wounds heal, yet scars remain.
